Page Layout Algo: Are You “Ad Stuffing”?

Google recently coined the phrase “Page Layout Algo”…have you heard about it? Google continues to move forward towards optimizing the user experience. What they have now done is tweak their algorithm to penalize a site with too many advertisements above the fold or a site that makes you scroll down too much to find the content or page layouts/designs that simply make it too difficult to see the real content.

As quoted directly from Matt Cutts in his recent blog post:

This algorithmic change noticeably affects less than 1% of searches globally. That means that in less than one in 100 searches, a typical user might notice a reordering of results on the search page. If you believe that your website has been affected by the page layout algorithm change, consider how your web pages use the area above-the-fold and whether the content on the page is obscured or otherwise hard for users to discern quickly.


While this change won’t affect the shear numbers as previous Google Panda updates, it has the potential to really affect internet marketers and Bloggers who rely heavily on Adsense for revenue.
