For weeks, we at Free SEO Report have been touting our friend Ryan Deiss’ awesome ‘How To Hack Youtube’ Special Report.

The system is absolutely great! We did, however, find 1 flaw… more on that in a moment.

The system is super easy, it’s also really quick and cheap to execute. Who doesn’t love that?

If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can HERE

Ok, so maybe ‘flaw’ is a little harsh of a term. Perhaps it’s just a little outdated information.

This information revolves around one of the most important parts of the report… Youtube Tag Ripping.

The concept is pretty simple… find the best ranking videos for your keywords and copy their tags. Then tag your own video with the same tags. Simple!

Well... the folks over at Google and Youtube got a wise to that. In August, they decided to hide tags from the public… or did they?

While they are not right below the video for all to see, the tags CAN be found by viewing the page source.

Simply right click on some white space in the window, then click ‘view source’. From there scroll down until you see ‘<meta name=”keywords” content=’. Everything after that is the tags you are looking to ‘rip’. That’s It!

Now that you have the final piece to this Youtube Hacking Puzzle, there is really no excuse for you to not try it for yourself. You can find that report again HERE

5 Reasons for Fresh Content

Have you ever thought about the Internet as a living and breathing entity with websites being the cells? Think about this: without websites that provide fresh new content, the Internet would slowly wither and die. Search engines are simply keeping the Internet pulse going by encouraging you to provide fresh new content and they reward you accordingly with an increase in rankings.

This post covers 5 reasons it is important to keep your website fresh, up-to-date and lively.

Fresh Content = Frequent Indexing = Happy You

This does not directly mean that simply posting new content all the time will shoot you to the top. But it does mean that the more fresh content on your website (think articles, new pages, videos, images, etc), the more your website will be crawled by the search engine spiders. Simply put, search engines use web crawlers which scan a website and index it based on their secret algorithmic factors and will reward a website with regular fresh content.

For example, a site is indexed in part based upon a combination of the number of backlinks to the site, the relevancy and kind of subject keywords used, and how often a site is updated by the owner. Every time you make an update to your website, the search engine takes notice and re-arranges your site’s ranking. Thus, if you want to increase the chances of your website getting a higher ranking, update the content frequently so that a search engine will reassess your position on its index. At the same time it increases your website for fresh content, it will be demoting a site that has become stagnant.

When Google Speaks…You Listen

We all know that the Google is the king of the mountain in the search engine world. When Google clearly expresses that it likes websites that are updated frequently, you should listen. But just how often is good? It is generally accepted that “frequently” means once a day to two or three times a week. As long as you update your website with quality content to ensure a great user experience, Google will generally reward you with and increase in rankings. Maybe not overnight, but over time you will see an increase.

Content, Keywords & Rankings

Each new blog post, article or page you create becomes an additional source of keywords with links to your website. Relevant keywords are one of the most important factor in the search engine algorithms. Without relevant keywords, how would the search engines know what your blog, article or website were about? Thus frequently adding new content with new relevant keywords allows you to attract new traffic to your website and rank very high in long tail keywords.

Fresh Content Is Like Water – The More Of It, The Higher Your Authority

The goal of many websites is to become the “authority” website in their niche. The most common method to becoming the authority website is to become the site with the most content. Almost always, Google rewards this strategy. Thus, the more informative, relevant, up-to-date and quality content you can provide, the greater potential you have to become the “authority” website in your niche.

In addition, if you take a look at your competitors’ websites, you will quickly find that the authority sites in your industry have tens of thousands of pages indexed by Google, who also measures relevance by site saturation. The more valuable content you publish, the better your chances of becoming an authority site.

To add to this strategy, try to frequently publish industry news updates to become an authority site. Each time you update your website with a news story, another page is created and indexed by Google.

Keep Your Audience Informed and Updated

Another important piece in the algorithm is the Bounce Rate. The bounce rate tells you how many people go to your site and stay versus how many go and immediately leave. Nothing is worse than going to a website and finding old stale content. This kind of site will have a high bounce rate. You want a low bounce rate. The search engines reward you for having low bounce rates.

Therefore, it is important to provide your viewers with fresh, exciting and valuable content to keep them on your website clicking around and reading what you have to offer. By keeping your audience engaged, you develop long-term loyalty, which translates into returning traffic that adds tremendous value to your website.

In summary, it should now be clear that in order to rank well in the search engines, one of the things you need to do is constantly provide fresh content. I recommend setting a goal of at least 2 or 3 blog posts a week or 2 or 3 new pages of content a week or something along those lines so that your website can continue to grow and flourish.

It's all about the title…The YouTube title that is…

You’ve created the most awesome video the world has ever seen: the best visual effects, the most hilarious dialogue and the hottest thing since…but wait, nobody is viewing it because nobody is finding it.

Have you considered the title of your video? Just like keyword optimization for a website, you need to optimize your YouTube title. In order to optimize the title, you should start with a tool such as Google Adwords keyword tool to find which words are best for your title. (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal))

Imagine we have a great video of making potato chips. You want to use this tool to decide which keywords you want to optimize for.

From the information you gathered from the keyword tool, you need to decide on a title. Next, use the YouTube suggested search to help you see the popular searches currently on YouTube. I also suggest that you check out a few of these searches to make sure your video fits into that category.

After researching ideas from the keyword tool, using YouTube suggest and looking at a few popular videos in your target niche, it’s time to write that awesome title. Of course there is no exact science to this, but with practice you will hone your technique. And remember, you can always edit your YouTube title; it is not permanent.

A real world example

Make Homemade Potato Chips – Recipe and Video Guide by Laura’s Baking
The first part of the title uses high volume keywords as well as some variation on suggested search in YouTube. The second part of this title gives the reader a sense of value before clicking. They already know that you will show them the recipe as well as the walkthrough of how to make the chips. The third part is a push towards branding. This is more of a personal preference and may or may not affect anything. If your video has an introduction that brands you, you may consider leaving this out.

The methods listed above are a way to help get your videos ranking higher in the search engines so that they can be a useful marketing tool.

Additional tips

The file name of the video prior to uploading should be named something relevant. In this example, the video could be called homemade-potato-chips.mpg; instead of video1.mpg. In addition, be sure to use the keywords you found in the video description and in the tags for the video.

Page Layout Algo: Are You “Ad Stuffing”?

Google recently coined the phrase “Page Layout Algo”…have you heard about it? Google continues to move forward towards optimizing the user experience. What they have now done is tweak their algorithm to penalize a site with too many advertisements above the fold or a site that makes you scroll down too much to find the content or page layouts/designs that simply make it too difficult to see the real content.

As quoted directly from Matt Cutts in his recent blog post:

This algorithmic change noticeably affects less than 1% of searches globally. That means that in less than one in 100 searches, a typical user might notice a reordering of results on the search page. If you believe that your website has been affected by the page layout algorithm change, consider how your web pages use the area above-the-fold and whether the content on the page is obscured or otherwise hard for users to discern quickly.

While this change won’t affect the shear numbers as previous Google Panda updates, it has the potential to really affect internet marketers and Bloggers who rely heavily on Adsense for revenue.

This official announcement probably hasn’t come as a complete shock to many of you because many SEO forums were suggesting to lower your ads down your page to help recover from the Google Panda updates. But this announcement simple makes it official.

Easily Test Your Site Against The Page Layout Algo

The easiest and most efficient method to test your website is to use the Google Browser Size tool. Simply enter your URL and it tells you if your site content is too much below or above the fold. Using this info, you can tweak and adjust your site to optimize the user experience and your click rate. After you make a change, wait a few days to see if your ranking changes and/or you have a change in traffic. If they increase, then the change was good. If they decrease, then head back and tweak your layout.

Of course you should always be aiming for a good user experience, but at the end of the day, we all know that ads placed above the fold outrank ads below the fold and pay better. It’s all about finding that balance.

If you do feel your site has been penalized for too many ads above the fold, make some changes and wait for Google to re-crawl your website with your new layout. As Matt Cutts mentions above, this algorithm change will not affect more than 1% of search results, but could severely affect many Bloggers who are aggressive about posting above the fold. Unfortunately Google didn’t make any mention about ads running in-between blog posts. I do hope that Google comments about this because I have always felt this creates a pretty bad user experience.

Do you think Google is being too aggressive with its changes? How has the new Page Layout Algo affected you?

Mastering your SEO strategy with Internal Links

SEO to people means many things...from keyword strategy to proper title tags and meta descriptions to building heaps of quality backlinks...but have you ever considered the internal links of your website?

To start with an easy mental image and analogy, think of internal links of your website like the veins in your body. Their role and function are equally as important to the health of your website as the veins are to your body.

Imagine your page as a remote island

Step back for a minute and imagine each page of your website as an island in the middle of a lonely ocean. Each page then has three elements:

inbound links from other pages of your website

the content on the page

links to other pages on your website

Therefore, each page serves a very specific function:

to act as a high ranking landing page

to serve as a supporting page to rank additional pages

With this in mind, the reason why so many pages become stagnant in the search engine result pages is because they don’t have enough link-flow from either (a) the site architecture (b) deep links / inbound links from other websites or more importantly (c) internal links from other high ranking pages from within your website.

What’s the fastest way to the top 10?

By far the quickest way to get a page in the top 10 is to get a link from another page already ranking in the top 10 for a related keyword or theme of your website.
Here’s the best part, you have COMPLETE control over your own pages, their content matter and how they are linked (with which anchor text) from the content body on other pages in your website. So why wouldn’t you take advantage of this and use this method to get additional pages ranking well?

Time to scale up your content

Now it’s time to take this a step further by scaling up the amount of pages to leverage the collective power of the entire body of contents. By simply creating more quality pages you can exceed the algorithmic tipping point required to gain enough authority for your chosen keywords (based on the competitiveness / barrier to entry).

You need to design a complete keyword package

For example, if I wanted to rank for the keyword “shirts”, with its 751 million competing pages, adding a new 10-page website and building some links (no matter how many) is NOT going to create enough relevance to hit page one for the word “shirts”. You won’t even be close.
The high ranking websites are there because of the relevance and citation they have acquired over the years. Basically, the more competitive the keyword, the more time, content, internal and external inbound links from other sites you need as well as trust and authority to offset your competitors relevance score.

Going back to your goal of ranking for a competitive keyword like “shirts”, to accomplish this feat, you will need every layer of your website to be semantically relevant to the seed phrase “shoes” and incorporate various keyword modifiers including different brands, sizes, models and styles.

Designing your internal structure

Once you have this, you need to critically think about your structure and segment which pages are most important and what function they serve and how they are connected; meaning tier one, tier two and tier 3 (i.e. landing page, category page or product / supporting article page). You will then map out the required internal links, content and implement them seamlessly in the site architecture/hierarchy where they belong – before you start inbound building links from other websites.

The more competitive the keyword you are targeting, the more detail you need to pay to on-page optimization. Your goal should be to offset the tendency for slipping in the SERPs. By intelligent internal linking and proper keyword content with the addition of keyword stemming (where a site begins to rank itself – page by page through themed links and content) you can will see an improvement in your ranking without building any new inbound links.

Can you create perpetual motion?

However, reaching the stage where each page can “rank” another page (like a perpetual motion machine), requires that the current pages pages are (a) indexed (b) strong enough (meaning linked from enough other internal pages) or (c) has enough quality deep links (inbound links from other websites to those internal page other than the homepage).
Sure, you can drip feed content and blog posts, add products (if it’s an eCommerce site) and slowly chip away at the keyword. But to really be effective you need to create internal self-referral loops using an internal linking structure for link-flow for your page rank similar to our bodies circulatory system for our blood. In case you were wondering, the technical name for this is “theming through siloing”.

It’s all about synergy

In countless years of testing website ranking by many professionals, no matter how many inbound links you have, your website is not complete unless (a) have internal links from the strongest keyword related pages in your website to assist that landing page or (b) have managed to get that page ranked so it can fend and defend itself amidst competitors vying for the same position.
Internal links can:

Strengthen a page to withstand attrition

Rank a page for competitive or less competitive “groups of words” once it has achieved its own rank for those keywords themselves

Index new pages which can support even more pages eventually as they mature

In summary...you need to find your weakest link

The summary and main thing here is that without a well thought and researched internal linking structure, you are only achieving a fraction of the results you could be achieving.

Without sounding to cliche, your website is only as strong as your weakest link. Therefore, with the more pages you have “that are indexed and aging” and “linked appropriately or exclusively with the anchor text that page is intended to rank for” the easier your pages rise to the top of your competitors as a result of the “collective weight” of the relevancy of your websites authority using a fragment of the off page links than if you hadn’t.

Stop making these 10 SEO mistakes!!!

So it’s still fresh into the New Year and you want more organic traffic now! Not yesterday, not next week and certainly not in three months. You have been reading for weeks on how best to implement SEO into your strategy so that you can spend less on paid advertising. It all seems so easy and clear in mind! You just can’t wait to get started!

Now fast forward four weeks...Really, it all seemed so easy and clear in mind. You would follow some SEO strategies and viola! you would jump to the top of Google and Bing for your selected keywords. But in reality, you have increased your ranking, but you are still on page 2 or maybe on the bottom of page 1.

As you are reading this, do this simple thing: stop for a moment, close your eyes, take a deep breath and repeat after me “every person before me doing SEO has been in this same situation and the answer to my problems is in this blog post”.

Seriously, we’ve all been where you are right at this moment. And because of that, we’ve made all the mistakes so we can easily fix SEO woes. Below are the 10 most common SEO mistakes I regularly see as well the best ways to fix them.

1. Are you tracking which phrases are really converting?

Would you rather have 100 visitors converting at 100% or 10,000 visitors converting at 0.5%? It’s not always the amount of traffic that is important, but the conversion of your traffic.

Often you are wasting your time going for the super-competitive, high traffic keywords. You simply don’t have the time and resources to out-SEO established websites in competitive keywords. Therefore, search for keyword phrases with much lower competition that you can indeed rank 1, 2 or 3 for and are known to convert.

2. Are you optimizing locally or globally?

If you are trying to optimize your website for local traffic in your city or region, did you know that Google and most other search engines handle those searches differently than global searches?

The best approach is to include region or city specific keywords in your content, page titles and meta-tag descriptions. As well as in the image file name and alt-text. Don’t keyword stuff your website, but make it clear that your site is located in city X.

In addition, on each page in either your header or footer you have your address and local phone number. It is important that this address and local phone number exactly match the address and number you have on your Google Places page. If you have not already set up accounts at local based sites and review networks, I recommend at least signing up at Yelp, Merchant Circle and FourSquare with this same exact address and local phone number.

3. Are you optimizing for the correct keywords?

This is one of the most common and serious blunders SEOs make. They let their imagination and dreams get ahead of them. Thus they try to optimize for:

• Global keywords, when you only offer services to local customers
• Generic keywords that attract visitors who have no interest in what you’re offering
• Keywords that only bring in visitors looking for free information, not prospective customers who are interested in buying something
• Broad keywords that have lots of competition, maybe with several SEO experts working full-time to defend the first page ranking

At this stage in the game for you, it is best to be as specific as possible and start with a very specific target niche or location. Don’t try to conquer the whole world at once. Did you see the Social Network movie about Facebook? Facebook didnt conquer the world overnight. They started with Harvard, then moved to surrounding colleges and then even colleges further out. While they have indeed had fast growth, they did start with one very specific target group.
You should be doing the same thing. Start to optimize for a very specific niche and it’s related keywords or your local city. Once you start ranking well, you can expand. This will directly increase your conversions because you will be giving the correct people the exact information they want.

4. Are you using unique Title Tags and Meta Descriptions?

Often SEO rookies (and even intermediates) will use the same title tags and meta description on each page; such as their companies name and no other information. This is such a damaging technical mistake.
Every page should have a unique title with a focus on the keyword phrase that page is targeting. And this is not just for SEO purposes; this is the era of tweets and sharing pages on Facebook. Hence you need correct descriptive info in your title tag and meta description because this is what people will read when your page is shared via social networks.
For example, lets imagine the portfolio of a web designer in Miami, Florida. Their main homepage keyword phrase is “Miami web design”. Then other pages in their portfolio could focus on more specific services that are popular queries.

• Homepage title: XYZ Web Design Studio | Miami, Florida
• Second page: WordPress Customization | XYZ Web Design Studio
• Third page: Custom Template Design | XYZ Web Design Studio
• Fourth page: eCommerce Website Design | XYZ Web Design Studio

As you can see, you can carry your company name throughout your pages while focusing on specific keywords that are specific to each page. Just put it at the end. General rule of thumb is Keyword Phrase | Company | Location but keep in the mind the limit of characters in a browser.
Meta descriptions are also important. They are a 160 character sales pitch for your page within search results.

So, make each one as unique and persuasive as possible. Your homepage and each page throughout your site should include a custom meta description that will make people want to click on your listing in search results, as well as include relevant keywords. For example:

• Homepage description: XYZ Web Design Studio offers web design services for small businesses, including WordPress customization, custom template design, eCommerce in Miami, FL.
• WordPress customization page: XYZ Web Design Studio offers WordPress customizations, including custom WordPress template design, Thesis theme customization, and more in Miami, FL.

5. Are you using Anchor Text for Internal Links?

How do you think the search engines know what a link is about? In large part, it has to do with the anchor text for that link. So when you are creating internal links around your website, be sure to include specific keyword anchor text instead of uber-vague words like “click here” or “read now” and things like that.

For example, when you write your next blog post, and you want to link to your e-commerce services page, make the anchor text “ecommerce website design services” or something along those lines. If you absolutely must have a call to action, try to at least include some relevant keywords in the link. For example, “click here to read more about our ecommerce services in Miami.”

6. Are you improperly using the same anchor text for all your backlinks?

Google and the rest of search engines have rapidly gotten much smarter over the last few years. While you definitely want keywords related to your website in your anchor text, you do not want the same keywords for all your anchor text.
This not only looks goofy to readers, but the search engines will definitely think you are trying to “juice” they system.
Mix it up with a variety of keywords, your URL and maybe even a common misspelling sometimes. You want it to look as natural as possible. A good rule of thumb is to not use the same keyword more than 50% of the time.

7. Are you focusing on backlink quantity at the expense of quality?

Like I said in number 6, the search engines have gotten insanely smarter that last few years. One link from popular blog in your niche or local area will do more for your website than tons of low quality links from unrelated websites. Yes these niche or local links are a little harder to get, but the benefits are exponentially better.
In summary, focus on getting links that are:

• Relevant to your website by niche and/or location
• Are not on websites which predominately only have lots of other outbound links
• And definitely do not contain links to adult, pharmacy or gambling sites.

We recommend using quality links from a reputable source such as Linkvana or SEOLinkwheelers

8. Are you using low quality content?

Listen up...this is 2012. Your viewers have an infinite amount of websites to get quality information on your topic. Thus you need to provide timely and relevant high quality content to your readers. There is simply too much competition to cut corners and skimp on quality content.

It is ok if you are not a good writer. Head on over to Elance or Odesk and find a quality writer. Don’t just take the cheapest writer. But do your research and find a good one. Ask for samples and ask what other websites they have written for; basically ask lots of questions. And once you find a quality writer, be sure to keep them and develop a relationship so they understand your goals and website better. There are plenty of quality writers available if you simply take a few minutes and search for them.

9. Are you creating content people even want to link to?

The blunt reality of link building is sometimes the most well written content still doesn’t get links.

If you want people to link to it, you need to make it exceptionally valuable to your readers. The most popular types of content to receive links are top lists, video or text tutorials, and infographics.
For example, our fictitious web design company could publish blog posts on their site like:

• Top 109 Best Designed eCommerce Websites
• How to Quickly Setup Widgets in WordPress
• A History of Web Design & Photoshop [Infographic]

10. Are you using an old boring website design?

If you have a unique and interesting website design, there are hundreds of CSS and other design galleries what will link to your website simply because they like the design of your website. You can also look for blogs that do reviews of great designs in particular industries and ask if they will add your website to their list as well.

No, these visitors from these links won’t add to your conversion rate. But these quality links will help your organic ranking which will drive more quality traffic to your site, which will then increase your conversions.

In summary, I hope this list has opened up your eyes to a few things and eased any fears or SEO nightmares you might have been having. The fact that you are working on your SEO puts you ahead of quite a few other people. So with a little more work and tweaking, you should soon be ranking well in the appropriate keyword phrases.

When you are looking through your analytics account to research the traffic to your website/blog, did you notice that some traffic that arrives to your site is not for your targeted keywords? Don’t you think that if you could leverage this to create a website, then that is like a magnet for traffic?

Let’s start by figuring out why you are even receive traffic from non-targeted keywords:
Google will rank your site for certain keywords based on their algorithms, if your keywords are not very competitive and your site has received enough link juice. If these conditions line up, then Google will rank those keywords high for your site! This is why it’s important to always have the goal of building an authority site, because eventually your website will acquire enough link juice to rank for many other low competition long tail keywords! This happens even if your post doesn't have any backlinks, because your domain is powerful enough to rank them, it is just like how you leverage web 2.0 and article directories, you want to rank your article on high PR authority domain.

Simple and Easy Way To Increase Web Traffic

Now that you understand the importance of creating an authority website, you can easily increase your web traffic with even more extremely low competition long tail keywords. For example, imagine you have 10 extremely low competition long tail keywords with each bring you 1 visitor a day; that's a 30 visitors/month X 10 sites = 300 extra visitors / month to your website, and you didn’t even have to create any backlinks!

And it gets better, if you use a professional method called the SEO Silo site structure, you can increase relevant keywords ranking and multiply your backlink effort by 11X or more.

The SEO SILO Structure

In this post, I am only going to cover the broad details of how an SEO Silo structure works. But don’t worry, simply search Google for “SEO Silo” and you will find an abundance of information to turn your website into a traffic magnet.

Main keyword - Weight Loss Programs

Sub Keywords
===========
Weight Loss Programs for Women
best weight loss programs for women
Weight Loss Programs for Men
Quick Weight Loss Programs
Weight Loss Programs Online
residential weight loss programs for adults
Weight Loss Programs That Work
Weight Loss Programs That Really Work

** Please note that the sub keywords are directly related to the main keyword, they are the drilled down version of what many people might search of the main keyword.

Taking the sub keyword phrase “Weight Loss Programs For Men”, you will see in either Google Suggest or Keyword Sniper Pro that the three most popular sub-searches are:

==> Weight Loss Programs For Men
======> Best Weight Loss Programs For Men
======> Best Weight Loss Programs for Men over 40
======> Best Weight Loss Programs for Men Over 50

Another example is:
==> Weight Loss Programs Review
======> Quick Weight Loss Programs
======> Weight Loss Program Online
======> Weight Loss Program That Works

Basically what you are doing is taking a keyword phrase and its 1-5 most related keyword phrases and creating individual pages based around these specific phrases. The reasons you want to implement the SEO Silo strategy is because they increase:

Search engine friendliness: Since search engines want to quickly determine the theme and relevancy of each page on your site, using silos allows you to add (and even guide) the search engines to understand what each page on your site is talking about. Silos can also help you rank better for long-tail terms as the search engines recognize your authority on your targeted topics.

User friendliness: Silos can help users understand the content of your website quickly and easily. Let’s face it, we users are fickle and they will only give you a short window to convince them that they have arrived in the right place. Silos can break down your information so it’s easy to digest, understand and the user can take action.

Authority positioning: By creating individual pages that provide great, relevant content, the search engines will view your website as an authority on your topic/product. Remember, search engines are looking for keywords, and the relevancy of your content to these keywords.

In-bound link focusing: When you have pages/sections of your site devoted entirely to one topic, you can focus your inbound links to the appropriate content on your site. This way, you can target and distribute your links to the content that will get the most benefit.

Increased rankings: The result of all of these positive attributes of siloing is increased rankings within the search engines for head and long-tail terms.

This strategy really works, however it requires you have an authority domain. How do you achieve that?

1. Great Content

2. Quality Links. Try Linkvana today and get 50 FREE quality links just for signing up.

Most Importantly, Don’t Forget To Create That Readers & Users Actually Want To Read And Interact With!!!

So to wrap up this three part series on getting targeted traffic for free, I hope you have learned a lot and had your eyes opened about things you might need to improve on and hopefully learned something about SEO Silos. Once you sit down and try out the methods discussed over the last three posts, you will realize they are NOT difficult to implement and optimize. And that they are a GREAT way to jump past your competition for some laser targeted traffic for a significant increase in profits.

Does this sound like you: You get an idea for an article, you immediately head over to Google’s keyword tool, find some words, sort them by the level of SEO competition and traffic, get excited because you think have a ‘gold nugget keyword’…but then after a while you have yet to see any results?

If this does indeed sound like you, don’t worry, you are not alone. And truth be told, you off to a good start because you know how to use the tool and have the right the idea…your method just needs some improvement.

When picking the right keyword, you need to consider three factors:

1. Keyword search volume
2. SEO competition
3. The three types of Keywords

a) Research keyword - Least valuable type of keyword as they present no solutions and don’t really incite any emotional response – example: “information about grocery bags”

b) Problem / Solution keyword – These type of keywords help you solve a problem. The more specific your phrase is to solve their problem, the more people will click on your link. These types of words often lead a viewer into a sales funnel type of system to convert them from readers to buyers – example: “how to quit smoking in 7 days”

c) Buying keyword – Another very specific keyword. These words include the product name, solution or cure for a particular problem. For these kinds of words, people are ready to buy and/or take action now. These are the kinds of keywords you want to target the most – example: “where to buy BMW in Miami”

When you are doing your keyword research, you want to keep these three types of keywords in mind. Basically, you want to target buying keywords and problem/solution keywords and generally avoid research keywords. The best selling/converting websites are websites that solve a very exact problem that often triggers an emotional reaction. This is why sites such as “get a girlfriend in 7 days” gets massively more traffic than “information about sewing”; the first one solves a very specific problem that people want solved now, while the second is not generally a topic which incites emotion.

Ok, let's take a look at what I mean:

First, we expand the keyword from the topic - "Weight Loss".

Please note that "Weight Loss" itself is a research keyword. The people who enter this keyword are really only looking for information at this stage. They are NOT ready to buy yet. Therefore, I would NOT target this short tail keyword phrase for 2 reasons:

It is not a buying keyword

This keyword has extremely high competition

Why would you want to spend a fortune to rank a keyword that won’t convert to sales well?

Let's look at the other long tail keywords.

Research Keyword
================
meal plans for weight loss
weight loss workouts
weight loss exercise
best weight loss program

Problem / Solution Keyword
==========================
weight loss solutions
online weight loss programs
fast weight loss
effective weight loss

Buying Keywords
================
The Actual Product / Service Name which is not shown in the initial research

Professional users tips: Before you proceed, you want to change your search results to "Exact" and "Phrase" match, ignore the "Broad" result. Broad searches don’t really tell you anything except how many people are searching in that niche for something related to that keyword.

For example: Weight Loss Programs has 368K broad searches, 90K phrase searches and 33K exact searches every month.

What does this means? It means that 368k people searched for something like:

Good weight loss programs
Good programs for weight loss

Exercise weight program for my golden retriever
Programs to help me in weight loss
Lose weight course

For broad searches, it doesn't matter how the keyword is arranged and what other words are around the phrase. This is why the broad match search count is never accurate, if you use that to estimate traffic to your website, it will never work.

Next is the phrase match. In the phrase match, the keyword phrase is maintained, but other related/unrelated words could be before and/or after your phrase. As you can see, some of these results might be completely unrelated to what you are trying to get results for. Examples:

Weight Loss Programs Before Wedding
Pet dog weight loss programs
Weight loss programs for better sleep
Best Weight Loss Programs

You'll notice that the exact keyword phrase exists in the entire above keyword list.

Lastly, the exact match. This is the best indicator of traffic and simplest to understand. Continuing with the phrase “weight loss programs”, we can build a website and have an estimate of the amount of traffic we will receive if the site is ranked number 1. If you ranked #1 for this keyword, you can expect 40% of the traffic flows into the first position.

For example, "Weight Loss Programs" received 33K exact match visitors a month, that means you have 33K * 40% = 13K visitors to your website if you rank on first position for this keyword.

How To Uncover More Long Tail Keywords?

Now, we have to look at only the "Phrase" VS "Exact" match result to find more long tail keywords for a particular Problem / Solution or Buying keyword.

Again, we look at "Weight Loss Programs". The phrase match has 90K while the exact match has 33K viewers a month. That's a difference of 57K. This basically tells you that there A LOT of long tail keywords waiting for discovery!

There are two methods you can use to go forward to discover these long tail keywords. You can automate the process with special tools like Keyword Sniper… You can always do it by hand using Google Suggest.

The first way is pretty self-explanatory and definitely worth looking into. To do it by hand, simply type the keyword in the Google search box, Google will show you the list of suggested long tail keywords, that's how we discover more long tail keywords.

For example, enter the keyword phrase "Weight Loss Programs" + "a". Copy this list of suggested phrases. Next, use “b” and then use “c” and so on. Write down all these suggestions. Google Suggest is basically giving you the best long tail keyword phrases.

Note: these results will be based on your previous searches as Google provides custom search results based on your previous searches. In order to get more of a worldview on your search results, turn off this feature and/or do a search while in Private mode in any of the major search engines.

For some keywords, you might want to try "a", "ab", "ac" to uncover even more results,
Here are some of the filtered exact match results
"Weight Loss Programs for Women" - 2400
"best weight loss programs for women" - 120
"Weight Loss Programs for Men" - 1300
"Quick Weight Loss Programs" - 720
"Weight Loss Programs Online" - 480
"residential weight loss programs for adults" - 120
"Weight Loss Programs That Work" - 390
"Weight Loss Programs That Really Work" - 210

If you built a website around these keywords, the expected traffic when all keywords are ranked on #1 would be 5740 * 40% = 2296 ready to buy visitors / month!

That's not all; remember the main keyword - "Weight Loss Programs"? After you've ranked all the long tail keywords of the main keyword, the next step is to push the main keyword to the first page!

This main keyword alone has 33K searches every month, if you ranked all the sub keywords to top 3 position, you most probably already built enough link juice to at least boost the main keyword to top 50 positions, now all you need is some extra pushes and you'll hit page 1 for the main keyword.

My suggestion if you are just starting out or even an intermediate would be to pick an even less competitive niche than weight loss. This niche would work, but there are endless other niches with much less competition where you could make more money much faster. Simply be creative and give yourself some time to find some hidden niches.

So that wraps up today’s post on keyword research. Try using the suggestions listed above and definitely take a look at like Keyword Sniper Pro to get quality long tail phrases in MUCH MUCH MUCH less time than doing it by hand.

How To Get On Page 1 For Zero Dollars Series - Part 1 - Long Tail Keyword Strategy

The success of any website, no matter if you are making money from Adsense, affiliate offers, e-books or anything in between depends mostly on one thing.

Traffic. It is easy understand, but not always easy to achieve.

Not just any type of traffic will do, you want targeted traffic. You could get 1 million viewers a month, but if they are not looking for what you are offering, you won’t make any money. It would be better to have 100-targeted viewers than 1,000,000 random viewers.

Instead of just hoping and praying for targeted traffic, why not create your content around specific keyword phrases that you know your potential clients are looking for. In this specific strategy, we are going to use long tail keywords to build content around your these specific keyword phrases and get to the top of Google after building only 50 backlinks or less.

Lets get started with the basics…

What is A Long Tail Keyword?

A long tail keyword is a keyword build up from 3 or more words, for example:

Short Tail / Main Keyword – Stop Smoking
Long Tail Keyword 1 – Stop Smoking Naturally
Long Tail Keyword 2 - How To Stop Smoking in 7 days

How Do I Use The Long Tail Keyword Strategy?

Long tail keywords are phrases that are usually low in SEO competition. Thus it is very easy for you to rank on page 1. While these keyword phrases are low traffic words (maybe 100 visitors month), when you implement this strategy with a large list of long tail keywords, you can easily generate large volumes of targeted traffic.

How To Get Your Articles To Rank On Page 1

To use this strategy is quite simple. The basic idea is to target and optimize an article around a specific long tail keyword phrase. To do this, use the keyword phrase in the following places:

The page title must contain the keyword

The first paragraph must contain the keyword

The middle paragraph must contain the keyword or a phrase match variant

The last paragraph must contain the keyword or a phrase match variant

And be sure to use the keyword phrase or a phrase match variant a few times naturally in each paragraph, and each paragraph should have 100 ~ 200 words.

When you use this basic but very powerful outline for writing your article you are half way to getting ranked on page 1 of Google. The other half of the equation is having quality backlinks to your article. An effective tool for building backlinks is Linkvana. This is a blog network of high PR blogs that you can use to easily build as many quality backlinks to your aricle as needed to rank highly.
And once you have articles that are ranking very high, your other articles on your website will also start to show an improvement in rankings. Eventually, you may even stop link building and continue to rank higher than other, however consistency is key and Linkvana is the perfect tool to drip relevant backlinks across your many niche articles.

Why Target Long Tail Keywords Instead Of Short Tail Keywords?

Competition. Simply put, it’s extremely competitive to rank for short tail keywords. Unless you have an the time, money and commitment it is much more cost and time effective to target long tail keywords.

Most Internet users know that they need to type in 2, 3 or even 4 keywords to effectively find what they are searching for. Thus you won’t be losing traffic. Quite the contrary actually, you will be gaining traffic because your article will target EXACTLY what they are searching for.

We hope you have learned more about the strategy of targeting long tail keywords instead of short tail keywords. In the next post, we are going to show you how to effectively do keyword research to discover some long tail keywords for your specific niche.
